The ADEQ Emergency Response Unit
(ERU) personnel received a notification of a spill of sulfuric acid from a
cracked pipeline |
located at the Phelps Dodge facility
in Baghdad, Arizona on September 10, 2004.�
Approximately 354 gallons of sulfuric acid was |
released into a secondary containment
area due to the cracked line.� �The contaminated soil in the retention area
was removed along |
with standing acid and returned to a
nearby leach pad for recovery.� This
occurred in the SX-EW plant on Phelps Dodge property, |
no offsite release had occurred.� |
