The ADEQ Emergency Response Unit (ERU) personnel received a notification of a spill of sulfuric acid from a cracked pipeline

located at the Phelps Dodge facility in Baghdad, Arizona on September 10, 2004.Approximately 354 gallons of sulfuric acid was

released into a secondary containment area due to the cracked line.The contaminated soil in the retention area was removed along

with standing acid and returned to a nearby leach pad for recovery.This occurred in the SX-EW plant on Phelps Dodge property,

no offsite release had occurred.
